Kalkan is on the south-west coast of Turkey. You can find a location map here.

This village has been described as the jewel of the Turquoise coast. It is small enough to retain its inherent charm without lacking the facilities that modern travellers expect.

Kalkan has escaped the excessive development found on other parts of the coastline. Although in recent years the area has seen an increase in the number of villas and hotels, Kalkan is still small and unspoiled and retains the charm of a working harbour town, with the local population living a simple way of life.

Fishermen depart at dawn to bring in their daily catch for the harbour front restaurants, locals sit in the cafés sipping tea and playing backgammon and the haunting call to prayer rings out from the mosque five times a day.

Although traditional in many ways, you will find English is widely spoken and there is nothing the locals like better than to practice theirs with you over a glass of chai (tea).

The village has plenty of restaurants and cafés to suit all tastes and pockets and friendly bars to enjoy a leisurely drink with your friends and the locals.
